The AF-3500 also reads all three field types with three axis magnetic sensing, real time LCD readings and audible alerts. Its RF range runs from 50 MHz to 3.5 GHz, so it covers 2.4 GHz WiFi, Bluetooth, cordless phones, smart meters and 4G. It does not reach the higher 5 GHz WiFi bands or the higher 5G frequencies that the AF-5000 measures up to 10 GHz.

What is an EMF meter?
An EMF meter detects and measures electromagnetic fields. There are three distinct types: electric fields, magnetic fields and radiofrequency fields. They come from different sources, such as electrical wiring, appliances and power lines for electric and magnetic, and wireless devices such as WiFi routers or cell towers for RF. Unless you only need one type, choose a meter that reads all three.
Should I buy the AF-5000 or the cheaper AF-3500?
Both read all three field types. The AF-3500 costs less and covers RF from 50 MHz to 3.5 GHz, which includes 2.4 GHz WiFi, Bluetooth, cordless phones, smart meters and 4G. The AF-5000 reaches 10 GHz, which is what you need for 5 GHz WiFi bands and the higher 5G frequencies. If 5G is the reason you are buying a meter, buy the AF-5000. Otherwise the AF-3500 is the sensible saving.
Does the AF-5000 need calibration before first use?
No. Install the batteries, choose RF, MF or EF, and start reading. No initial calibration is required to take a first measurement.
Who uses an EMF meter?

Does an EMF meter detect radiation?
It measures electromagnetic radiation in its non ionizing forms, which is what WiFi routers, cell towers, power lines and household appliances emit. EMF meters do not detect ionizing radiation such as gamma rays or X rays. That requires a Geiger counter or similar equipment.
