Ready for 5G

As we keep developing our paints, they now have an almost linear shielding attenuation for a very large frequency range. This frequency range has included both 5G frequency spectrums for quite some time: FR1 (600 MHz - 6 GHz) and FR2 (24 GHz - 40 GHz).

We have a professional EMC-laboratory according to various standards up to 40 GHz on site, which is operated by long-time experienced staff.  You’ll receive measuring curves and reports from 40/600 MHz - 40 GHz with all our shielding products.

No nanotechnology

Our shielding paints are developed in accordance with strict ecological criteria.  We use, for example, the carbon black with the lowest emission possible on the market and untreated natural graphite.  We consciously do not use graphene, a nanomaterial where the hazard potential is still completely unknown.

    Most shielding paints stop where 5G starts

    The higher 5G bands are the hardest part of the spectrum to attenuate. RF-IE50 is measured all the way to 40 GHz, and the numbers are published, not implied.

    Attenuation

    39 dB at one layer. 78 dB at three.

    Screening attenuation is measured in decibels, and the scale is logarithmic: every 10 dB is another factor of ten of RF energy removed. A single layer at 39 dB blocks roughly 99.99% of the incident RF energy at 1 GHz. Add layers where you need more.

    Almost linear across a very large frequency range

    The paint shields with no preferred direction of polarization, so it does not matter how the transmitter is oriented relative to your wall.     How much paint does your room need?

    Work it out per layer. Coverage is 81 sq ft per litre per coat, and most jobs use two to three coats, so a single wall done properly is not the same as a single wall painted once.

    One litre does 81 sq ft per coat, so a single 10 by 8 ft wall at three coats already needs three litres. A bedroom with two exterior walls, a ceiling, or any facade work is a 5 litre job. Same RF-IE50 formulation, same 39 dB at one layer and 78 dB at three layers at 40 GHz.

    Do I need a grounding kit?
    For a full installation we recommend grounding the paint, and we carry simple grounding kits that make it straightforward. If you are just testing a small area, start with the paint and add a kit whenever you are ready. Email us and we will tell you exactly what your job needs.
    How much wall does 1 litre cover?
    One litre covers 7.5 square metres, about 81 square feet, per layer. Two or three layers are common, so a 81 sq ft wall painted three times needs three litres. For a whole room or a facade, the 5 litre tin at 400 sq ft per layer is better value.
    Does it actually block 5G?
    It attenuates almost constantly up to 40 GHz, which covers both 5G spectrums: FR1 from 600 MHz to 6 GHz and FR2 from 24 to 40 GHz. At 40 GHz a single layer gives 39 dB and three layers give 78 dB. Measuring curves and reports from 600 MHz to 40 GHz are supplied with the product.
    How many coats should I apply?
    One layer already gives 39 dB at 1 GHz. Two layers give 46 dB and three give 51 dB, and the gain is much larger in the higher 5G bands, where three layers reach 78 dB. Most whole-room installations use two to three coats. Customers consistently report better results with multiple coats.
    Can I paint over it?
    Yes, and you should. RF-IE50 is black and is applied as a primer coat. Cover it with plastic-bonded water-based emulsion paints, dispersion silicate paints, facade paints or silicon resin paints in whatever colour you want. The shielding sits underneath and is invisible once finished.
    Can it be used outside?
    Yes. It is formulated for exterior as well as interior use on walls, ceilings, floors and facades, with excellent adhesion on almost all substrates. For exterior work, add the AF3 fiber additive, whose conductive carbon fibers keep the coating working even if the substrate cracks.
    Is it safe to use indoors? What is in it?
    It is water-based, highly breathable and very low VOC, with no toxic solvents, plasticizers or other toxic ingredients. The ingredients are water, natural graphite, pure acrylic dispersion, carbon black, additives and preservative (BIT, INN, MIT). It deliberately contains no graphene or other nanomaterials.
    Do I need a primer first?
    Usually not. On solid old coats of paint, or brittle, chalky and absorbent substrates, prime first with GK5 primer concentrate, which regulates absorbency and promotes adhesion. One litre of concentrate mixes with 4 litres of water to make 5 litres of primer.
    Will it survive shipping and storage in winter?
    Yes. RF-IE50 is frost resistant, proved through 5 freeze and thaw cycles, so it can be shipped year round by air cargo or ship.
